GPCS' First Lego League (FLL) Home

Purpose

This website got started because robotics is growing in Gwinnett County and we decided that GCPS needed a place to go to seek answers to questions and concerns and a place to get ideas.  Please know that this site suggests ideas but there are hundreds of ways to do First Lego League (FLL).

FIRST

FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology", and it is the organization behind the First Lego League competition.

Starting a Team

If FLL is something that a school would like to start you must find a way to gather students who are interested. Keep in mind that each team is only allowed to have 10 team members!

1. Advertise.
  •     Put a commercial on your school's news show
  •     Make posters and put them around your school

2.  Schedule an informational meeting for Parents and Students

  • If you know a person who has already started a team ask to use their FLL DVD which is given with the registration of each team and a field kit.
3. Be prepared for a huge response

  • You will be amazed how many kids will be interested.  When I held my first informational meeting I filled up our cafeteria.
4.  Due to the huge response use an application

  • By giving out an application you will weed out the ones who would not give 100%.
  • Don't recreate the wheel ask others if they have an application and edit it to suit your needs.  Below you will find helpful websites and documents.
